Commercial Vehicle Technician

Based at our Askam In Furness depot:
Paradise, Askam-In-Furness, Cumbria, LA16 7HA



Job Description

Furness Cars & Commercials Limited are looking for an enthusiastic Commercial Vehicle Technician to join our team at our busy, Askam-In-Furness Premises (Head Office). The successful candidate’s role will be to carry out service, repair and maintenance tasks on a variety of commercial vehicles. The vehicles range from our own fleet, customer vehicles and fleet vehicles.


The successful candidate’s role will involve the following:

• Ensuring all company documentation is fully completed at all times.
• Diagnose Vehicle faults and repair efficiently to a high standard.
• Complete services, repairs, general maintenance to a variety of commercial vehicles.
• Be of good character working well with others as part of a team or individually.
• Adhere to the confidentiality Data Protection Act.
• Be able to work in high pressure situations and handle calmly and efficiently.
• Carry out MOT’s and relevant repairs (if qualified).
• Liaise with Service Advisor in an efficient manner, discussing matters to be relayed to customers, work and parts required.
• Deliver a high level of customer service to all customers.
• Have an organised approach to work, prioritising jobs to an efficient order, utilising your time effectively.
• Be well presentable at all times and be representative of the Company.
• Be able to follow verbal, written and diagram instructions.
• Work to a high professional standard at all times.
• Comply with the Health and Safety Procedures.



Qualities Required

• MOT Tester. (Advantage)
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Motor Vehicle qualification. (Advantage)
• Full Driving Licence.
• HGV Class 1/Class 2. (Advantage)
• CRB Clearance. (Completed in house)


The above qualities are preferred but not essential. All skill levels will be considered.


Skills Required

• Mechanical Aptitude and Knowledge.
• High personal standards.
• Good communication skills.
• Work well individually or as part of a team.

Roadside Recovery Technician

Based at our Crooklands depot:

Job Description

Furness Cars & Commercials Limited are looking for an enthusiastic Roadside Recovery Technician to join our team at our Crooklands Premises. The successful candidate will be expected to attend a variety of vehicles at the roadside which have broken down or been involved in a road traffic collision. We attend incidents on behalf of several motoring organisations, our own customer base, Cumbria Police and local authorities. The ideal candidate should live locally to our premises, due to the nature of the business we are required to meet non flexible arrival times.


The successful candidate’s role will involve the following:

• Carry out daily checks on our own fleet vehicles to ensure all on board equipment is serviceable.
• Ensuring all company documentation is fully completed at all times.
• Ensuring work vehicles are kept to a high standard of cleanliness at all times.
• Attend casualty vehicles in a timely manner, ensuring where possible you repair vehicles at the roadside, advising the driver of the fault and repair required.
• Attend vehicles that have been involved in road traffic collisions in a safe and professional manner.
• Attending incidents on behalf of Cumbria Police and Highways England in a safe, profession and practical manner.
• Adhere to the confidentiality Data Protection Act.
• Be able to work in high pressure situations and handle calmly and efficiently.
• Loading and recovering casualty vehicles, transferring loads to other colleagues or other recovery agents.
• Liaise with control room staff in an efficient manner, discussing matters that might affect the outcome of a roadside job or recovery.
• Deliver a high level of customer service to members of the public, reassuring vulnerable customers of the work we are carrying out.
• Have a flexible approach to working hours.
• Be well presentable at all times and be representative of the Company.
• Be of good character working well with others as part of a team or individually.
• Work to a high, professional standard at all times.
• Comply with the Health and Safety Procedures.



Qualities Required

• MOT Tester. (Advantage)
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Motor Vehicle qualification. (Advantage)
• Full Driving Licence.
• HGV Class 1/Class 2. (Advantage)
• CRB Clearance. (Completed in house)


With the exception of CRB Clearance, the above qualities are preferred but not essential. All skill levels will be considered.
